Something has been on mind over the past month and I’ve needed to take a break from the blog and process it all! But I’m back today with something I’ve been experiencing lately! I had other plans for the blog but this was weighing on my heart. Here goes…
As a little girl, I didn’t dream of having a big wedding when I grew up. I even didn’t dream of getting married. I never played dress up in old wedding dresses and never even played “wedding.” Yet, I still loved attending weddings because of the endless amounts of positive energy that surrounded a wedding.
Ever since I can remember, I said I’m never getting married. As I’ve grown into adulthood, you can only imagine I’ve changed my mind about that. Especially as I watch my closest friends couple off and get married. However, I am in absolutely no hurry to get married. I am too busy making sure I live my life and enjoy this time of complete singlehood! According to my friends, I have some crazy stories to tell from the last few years! We’ll save that for another.
Recently, being single has been thrown in my face in various different ways. The culture I grew up in seems to not understand how a 28 year old girl has never dated let alone isn’t married yet. Even though girls in this century are getting married later in life and may or may not have children. I get asked all the time when I am going to start dating or if I have a boyfriend. The answer: when I’m ready and not yet. The world doesn’t seem to know what to do with a person who is happily single!
I am a single wedding photographer and I can’t imagine my life any other way at the moment! Because even though I’ve never dated, I recognize a strong bond between people and believe that love is single handedly the strongest feeling and emotion on the planet! Love changes people, love makes people grin like crazy, love makes people forget there’s anyone else in the room, your love can be seen and felt for miles. Love is magical and casts a spell over people that you just can’t seem to shake. Love erases the stresses of life and makes you feel at peace. Friends, this is why I am a wedding photographer! Because I believe in the power of love.
Eeeek! These make me so giddy because you see, she is one of my closest friends. We’ve been friends since high school and time and distance hasn’t kept us from remaining friends! Last June, I was introduced to him and after hanging out with these two after my move back, I knew it wouldn’t be long before they were engaged! So when he proposed in January, she asked me to do two very important jobs: 1) take their engagement pictures and 2) stand up with her. Of course I said YES to both!!! It’s not everyday you get asked to be a part of your closest friends’ wedding and I feel incredibly honored to be standing with them this weekend.
Not only did we get some AMAZING light at the end of the session, I had a great time hanging out and shooting these two! Thank you for asking me to do these pictures for you and thank you for asking me to stand with you on a very big day in your lives!
I started going through my 2nd shooting archive this weekend and couldn’t help but post just this one picture from a gorgeous fall wedding last September! After becoming a little bit burned out on photography, this wedding restored that passion and drive I have for shooting weddings and why it is I do what I do!
I’ve known her since our high school days back at Hyland. On days my mom had to work, her amazing mother would drive my brother and me home since I refused to drive for a while after a car accident. She eventually left Hyland and finished high school at Faith, where she met him. They’ve been married for 6 years and have 2 adorable kids! Enjoy!
